Texas A&M "Invent for The Planet" 2020

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS with its strategic partner Schlumberger Malaysia has collaborate to participate in a global online competition the “Invent for the planet” hosted by Texas A&M University. It is a 48 hours of design competition, took place at over 30 universities worldwide. In the competition, students have to develop solutions for major issues facing society that have arisen as our world continues to modernize and become more populated.

It is a 48 hours of design competition, took place at over 30 universities worldwide. In the competition, students have to develop solutions for major issues facing society that have arisen as our world continues to modernize and become more populated. Over the course of two days, students at each campus formed teams, developed a plan and prototype, created a business plan and pitched it to a panel of judges. For UTP, Mr. Muhammad Shafiq, an Technical and Product Engineer for Asia operation of Schlumberger has been the lead trainer and assist the participants by contributing his technical and managerial expertise. His experience of more than 10 years with Schlumberger has helped UTP teams for their first year of participation.  Briefing from Muhammad Shafiq (Schlumberger)Such assistance by Schlumberger show its continuous support and commitment towards its academic partner. In the competition, UTP was represented by three teams of 15 students from Mechanical, Electrical and Business Information System Faculty. Shafiq said, prior to the partnership agreement signed between UTP and Schlumberger, such program manifested expertise and assistance channeled from an industry player to academic institution. He added, with the involvement of industries in such competition, participants could experience innovation and entrepreneurial process at a professional level, hence, to prepare them for the demand of job market. For 2019 edition testified Ecotory, as the first-place team from Texas A&M, developed an app that allows airline passengers to exchange unwanted meals and amenities for airline miles.  It also allows airlines to better gauge passenger needs that integrate with their inventory systems. Eloped an app that allows airline passengers to exchange unwanted meals and amenities for airline miles. Other than to harness talents among students, this competition aimed to promote an around the world collaboration among universities.
